Executive
Council Meeting August 2007
Members Present: Bruce Krueger, Kevin Carr, Jeannine Bethke, Robin Tast, Roberta Oestreich, Lee McMahan, Dwight Rumpel, John Brandau, and Pastor Meggan Prosser-Gebhardt. Member Absent: Beth Edmonds and Tom Padilla
Kevin Carr called the meeting to order and welcomed the new Council members. Pastor Meggan opened the meeting with prayer.
Minutes for the July Council Meeting were reviewed and approved (Dwight / Lee). Minutes from the July Congregational Meeting were reviewed and approved (Dwight / Lee).
Treasurer’s Report –The general fund decreased by $1,279.59 during the month of July with an ending balance of $8,740.44. General contributions received during July totaled $19,324.50. Monthly budget projection is $18,488.00. YTD receipts totaled $118,898.86. Currently there is a -$124.41 in the hymnal fund. Jeannine and Robin have reviewed the account and nothing appeared to be out of place. A recommendation was made to move funds from the Undesignated Benevolence Trust to zero out the Hymnal Fund since there should be no further purchases. (Roberta / Dwight)

Property Report – July projects: sanctuary and shed composition shingles were replaced, posted dumpster sign regarding usage, replaced rotted boards in playground equipment and painted, repaired HVAC vent grill, trimmed spriea bushes and planted new ones, pruned dead branches from bushes, watered bushes, sprayed for bagworms, mowed lawn, picked up lawn trash, replaced light bulbs, sprayed for weeds, reprogrammed thermostats weekly.
Building Committee – Bruce Krueger informed us the committee chair is Pam Becker. The members are in the process of getting bids and will have another meeting the end of August to review a majority of the bids. The committee is also thinking about ways to keep the congregation aware of their progress.
Lee will call the security system regarding whom they call in an event of an emergency. Lee will provide this information to Kevin or Bruce to discuss the possible revision of the list.
Pastor Report – Pastor has been busy over the last month with meetings about committees and the inter-workings of OSLC. She has had approximately 17 different meetings not including staff meetings. She has had a Baptism and is making calls on the shut-ins. The new phone system from Datatel will be installed August 14, 2007. The new Executive Council will be installed the weekend of August 25 /26. Council members are encouraged to attend both services.
Old Business The council reviewed the outline of the Support Staff/Personnel Committee. Kevin will talk with the at large members of this committee and assign their terms.
Kevin Carr has recommended the formation of a new committee. The committee would be called the Communications & Technology Advisory Committee. The committee members are John Prosser-Gebhardt, Eric Gustafson, Linda Carr, Christie Brandau, and Janis Swanson. The committee would be responsible for office computing systems, communication and technology support for ministries, website content and functionality, conduct ongoing research and evaluation of best practices used by other organizations, advise council of needs / implications on budget and other resources, provide a brief written update of activities and recommendations to council on a monthly basis. New Business Kevin Carr has recommended the formation of a new committee. The committee would be called the Strategic Planning Committee. The members are Tom Padilla, Kevin Carr, Clay Davis, Pastor Meggan Prosser-Gebhardt, John Brandau, and Beth Edmonds. (Roberta / Dwight) The details of this committee are still in the process.
Kevin Carr has talked with Pastor Meggan about the committee structures and organizations. Kevin is talking to all current Committee chairs to see if they will continue as the chair. The Council along with Committee chairs and their members will be asked to look inwardly to see if possible current processes should be updated. The council will be looking at assigning council members as liaisons to some of the committees. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church currently has 17 active committees so communication between the committees and the Executive Council is essential. September 9th is Rally Day and is also going to be called Ministry Day. All committees will be encouraged to put together a booth / table top display about their respective committees for members to view.
There will be a Leadership / Planning retreat for all council members and committee chairs. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 22nd, 2007.
Kevin thanked out going council members Roberta Oestreich, Bruce Krueger, and Jeannine Bethke for their time and commitment to OSLC.
The next council meeting will be Monday September 10th, 2007 at 6pm.
