EXECUTIVE
COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
February 2008
Members Present:
Kevin Carr, Robin Tast, Dwight Rumpel, Lee
McMahan, Beth Edmonds, John Brandau and Pastor Meggan Prosser-Gebhardt.
Members Absent: Tom Padilla,
Kevin Carr called the meeting to order.
Pastor Meggan opened with devotions based on Philippians 4:1-20 and
prayer.
Minutes
for the January Council Meeting were reviewed and approved (Lee /
Dwight).
The council also reviewed the minutes from the
January 2008 Congregational Meeting. The congregation will approve the
minutes during the July 2008 Congregational Meeting. In the mean time,
the council agrees they can be posted on the website since they have been
reviewed by the council.
Treasurer’s Report
– General Fund stood at $17,278.80, including amounts received from
contributions, and insurance amounts received and disbursed during the
month. General Contributions received during January totaled $18,328.33,
which was slightly less than our monthly projection of $18,708.00. The
Worship Center Fund received $2,197.50 in January, with expenditures of
$2,756.00, leaving us with $55,437.73.
The treasurer’s report were approved (Lee /
John)
Lloyd Pinon submitted in writing a detailed
list of activities he was willing to do as the Bookkeeper for OSLC. He
estimates his total yearly commitment would be approximately 396 hours and
he is requesting to be compensated $500.00 per month. After discussion
this was approved and Kevin will offer the position to Lloyd with a
6-month review in late July 2008. In addition, Lloyd requested his
janitor compensation remain the same with no increase in salary as
previously approved during the January 2008 Congregational Meeting. After
discussion this was approved (Dwight / Beth)
We discussed posting job descriptions for
Parish Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, Financial Secretary,
Bookkeeper, and Treasurer in the near future of the congregation. In
addition, we discussed including a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
section to the upcoming telephone directory.
Property Report
– January projects: Purchased balance replacement office equipment,
painted Pastor’s Office and nursery mural wall, submitted 2008 Property
Budget, moved office supplies to new copier room, removed sanctuary and
fellowship hall chair seats, and backs for new upholstery, moved paint to
new storage area, received new office equipment, repaired faucets,
repaired rubber roof, assisted in removing seasonal decorations and signs,
interacted with committees regarding fire damaged items, worked with
insurance company and fire restoration contractors, replaced outside
bulbs, taped open carpet seams, removed snow and ice, picked up lawn
trash, replaced light bulbs, and reprogrammed thermostats weekly.
In addition, fire restoration activities were
completed February 11, 2008. The painting of the damaged rooms and
hallways will begin the week of February 11th, 2008.
Pastor Report
– Pastor has been attending various OSLC meetings, teaching, providing
counseling and Pastoral care to members. She visited several members
during their recent hospitalizations. She has also visited with several
of our homebound members. She performed Duane Swanson’s funeral &
Committal Service, in addition to presiding over Ash Wednesday service on
February 6, 2008.
Pastor Meggan asked the council to consider
her taking off one weekend per quarter starting with her new contract or
July 2008 in lieu of a compensation increase. She would find pulpit
supply during her absence and Robin recommended she take festival Sundays
into consideration when planning her weekend off. After discussion this
was approved. (Beth / Dwight)
Committee Updates
Council members provided brief updates on
their respective committees. Pastor will place another newspaper
advertisement for the Administrative Assistant position.
New Business
- Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will host the
upcoming Area Ministry 4 Gathering on March 2, 2008 at 3pm. All members
of the council and other leaders of the congregation are invited to attend
the meeting. There will be a light supper following the meeting. The
Fellowship Committee will host a light supper.
Pastor Meggan will be attending a
brainstorming / planning meeting on February 28, 2008 in Kansas City.
Those attending this meeting will be organizing a retreat called “How
Churches can work with Community Organizers”. Lay leaders from our church
will be encouraged to attend the retreat in August.
The next council meeting will be
scheduled for Monday March 10th, 2008 at 6pm.
