January 2008
Members Present: Kevin Carr, Robin Tast, Dwight Rumpel, Lee McMahan, Beth Edmonds, John Brandau and Pastor Meggan Prosser-Gebhardt.
Members Absent: Tom Padilla, Guest: Bruce Krueger
Kevin Carr called the meeting to order and Pastor Meggan opened with prayer.
Bruce Krueger presented to the council the Mission Investment Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America loan documents. The original loan document was given to Robin. Bruce reminded the council the interest rate was 6.5% fixed for 5 years. Our monthly payments would be $1,100.00 per month. We have collected $90,000 and the projection was $260,000. To date we have spent $35,000. At the upcoming congregational meeting, the council will recommend to the congregation we approve the specific language in the loan required by the Mission Investment Fund. (The loan amount was approved during the July 2007 Congregational Meeting.) Once the congregation approves the language, Robin will finalize the paperwork, make a copy, and return the original to Bruce. Bruce left the meeting after his presentation to the council
Minutes for the December Council Meeting were reviewed and approved (Dwight / Lee).
Treasurer’s Report – The general fund increased by $7,548.66 during December, plus $5,000 Insurance received minus $1,853.43 Insurance money disbursed. General contributions received totaled $26,111.16, which was more than our projection of $18,488.00. YTD receipts totaled $218,141.13. YTD receipts into the Worship Center Fund total $90,996.53. The council recommends we put $2,000 from the General fund back into the Building Improvement fund. (Dwight / Robin)

Property Report – December projects: Assisted the Worship Committee with seasonal decoration and signs, interacted with Technology and Nursery Committee regarding fire damaged items, worked with insurance company and fire restoration contractors, filled parking lot potholes, replaced outside bulbs, replaced part on leaky fixture, taped and re-taped open carpet seams, removed snow and ice, picked up lawn trash, replaced light bulbs, adjusted altar spot light, reprogrammed thermostats weekly.
Lee reported the “concealed and carry” signs are posted. The termite-infected area has been replaced. Treatment for the termites will begin in March 2008 and has been guaranteed for 20 years. The fire restoration is almost complete and the offices will be moved back in the near future.
Pastor Report – Pastor has been attending various OSLC meetings, teaching, providing counseling and Pastoral care to members. She performed Julia Luekenga’s funeral & Butch Felker’s funeral. In addition, she went on vacation from 12/25/07 – 1/03/08. Key Staffing will provide us with an Administrative Assistant (temp) at $13.19 / hour and she is to start on 1/15/08. Pastor Meggan recommends the council consider helping Pam Becker financially with her upcoming Mission Trip to Guyana, South America. After a brief discussion, the council recommends we provide Pam with $500.00 from undesignated funds. (Dwight / Beth)
Committee Updates Council members provided brief updates on the following committees: Staff Support / Personnel Committee, Kathy’s last day was Friday and there will be an ad in the paper to find a replacement soon. The Technology / Communications Committee provide the council with a detailed list of the of the office equipment which has been ordered (total cost $3,196.74)
Old BusinessThe Nominating Committee will include Robin Tast & Tom Padilla and 5 other congregational members. Beth, Kevin, John, Lee, and Dwight, will nominate the other members of the congregation to be on this committee. The committee will then nominate members for Vice President, Secretary, and one Member at Large. The nominees will be presented at the July 2008 congregational meeting.
New BusinessThe council reviewed the 2008 budget and after discussion, we agree to present it to the congregation at the informational meeting on January 20, 2008 and then the congregational meeting on January 27, 2008. (Lee / John)
The next council meeting will be scheduled for Monday February 11th, 2008 at 6pm.
