Discipleship
Committee
The
Discipleship Committee is a new committee at Our Savior’s that I
am very excited about. The purpose of the Discipleship Committee is to
encourage a sprit of discipleship and spiritual growth in every member of
Our Savior’s. They will help members discover and develop his or her
God-given talents and gifts and use them responsibly in service to God,
church, community, and the world. They will also work to find ways to
further faith practices, such as small group bible studies that emphasize
discipleship, helping us explore different ways to practice discipleship
in our daily lives, and look for ways we can practice discipleship through
inter-committee and intergenerational activities, as well as explore new
and exciting ways to be disciples in the world.
The
input from members of the committee was invaluable in the creation of the
new Offering of Our Gifts forms that have been distributed to the
congregation. The input from this committee will also be vitally important
to carrying out my new duties as the Lay Ministries Coordinator, and I
look forward to working closely with them in the future. I want to thank Brent
Schultz, Katie Davis, Carol Brown, Carolyn Middendorf, and Barb Keil for
agreeing to serve on this committee. If you are interested in or have any
questions about the work of the committee, contact me or any of the
committee members.
Caring
Ministers
As
members of the family of Our Savior’s we are all Caring Ministers. The
Caring Ministries program is an opportunity for you to reach out to others
at OSLC who may need extra care and attention for one week at a time. The
Caring Ministers are asked to pray for individuals, contact them, and then
respond as appropriate before "passing it on" to the next Caring
Minister. Concerns should be called to the Church
Office or Linda
Willis.
Celebrate 50 Years of Sharing
In commemoration of the 50th
Anniversary of Our Savior’s Lutheran, Social Ministries will be sponsoring
"50 Days of Sharing." For 50 years, a major focus for our church
has been sharing our gifts and talents with the community.
So for 50 days, beginning August 9, and
culminating with the anniversary celebration on September 27-28,
each of us will have the opportunity to share in our own way. Each day
will offer a different opportunity to be involved. Our hope is that each
member will be able to participate in some way.
Sharing may include making monthly donations of
items for Doorstep, Topeka Rescue Mission, or Quinton Heights School; care
packages for the military; volunteering at a local school; making items
for the fall Bazaar; bringing a friend to Sunday School; or visiting a
homebound member. This list is endless, but the point is that every member
is encouraged to participate in some way.
Likewise, each group is encouraged to choose
a day to participate. For example, Sunday School may choose Rally Day to
share in a special way. Social Ministries hopes that each group will
consider how to participate in this meaningful project. Please contact
Sandi Kassebaum (862-7499) or Roberta Oestreich (273-0659) with
your ideas, so we may include them in our plans. Watch the Social
Ministries bulletin board as we anticipate
"50 Days of Sharing." |
