Members Present: Kevin Carr, Robin Tast, Dwight Rumpel, Lee McMahan, and Pastor Meggan Prosser-Gebhardt. Members Absent – Tom Padilla, Beth Edmonds, and John Brandau Kevin Carr called the meeting to order. Pastor Meggan opened with Devotions reading from the book “Reclaiming the “C” word. Minutes for the October Council Meeting were reviewed and approved (Dwight / Lee). Treasurer’s Report – The Worship Center Fund increased $19,843.00 during the month of October to bring the fund to $73,197.23. The General Fund decreased by $939.73 during the month with an ending balance of $9,643.80. General Contributions received totaled $14,847.00, which is less than our monthly projection of $18,488.00. YTD receipts totaled $169,556.91. Dwight recommends we put the $1,000.00 allocations for November and December 2007 into the General Fund instead of the Building improvement fund. This recommendation and the treasurer’s report were approved (Robin / Lee) Property Report – October projects: Reset clock and timers to CST, replaced batteries in smoke detectors and clocks, replaced furnace filters, inspected refrigerator coils, sealed rubber roof and repaired major problem area, repaired leaking stool, power planed the kitchen door, cleaned storage closet, fertilized front and side lawns, obtained estimate for graying rock, repaired damage caused by attempted theft of mower shed, trimmed trees, picked up leaves, mowed lawn and trimmed, picked up lawn trash, replaced light bulbs, reprogrammed thermostats weekly. The Property Committee has a proposal regarding lost and found items. Small items (ie glove, scarf, earring, jacket) will be placed in or near the lost / found box in the Hat and Coat Rack area and retained for 30 days after which they will be donated to charity if remain unclaimed. Major items will be advertised in bulletins and twice in the Dialog. If the item remains unclaimed or is not wanted by the finder, it will be donated to charity two weeks after it appears in the Dialog the second time. In the opinion of the Church Staff, items which appear to be worth over $50 or are an obvious keepsake will be advertised in the Topeka Capital Journal newspaper. Pastor will discuss the proposal with Kathy Fox and if she is in willing to add this to her duties the council agrees with the recommendations. Pastor Report – Pastor has been busy attending various meetings, providing counseling, providing Pastoral care to members, and teaching. She presided over Diane Harkness’ Funeral and Jenna Walter’s Baptism. She led discussions at several “Getting to know you” Cottage Meetings. Committee
Updates Council members provided updates on the following committees: Christian Education, Evangelism, Fellowship, LYO, Social Ministries, Staff Support / Personnel, Strategic Planning, Technology / Communications, and Worship. Old Business Renovation Project The loan has been secured and construction has started and pledged money is coming in. Pastor Meggan handed out job descriptions for Volunteer Ministries Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, Music Coordinator, Pianist, and Bell Choir Director for the council’s review. The council approves them under the discretion of Pastor Meggan to finalize once the job description has been reviewed with the current employee. (Dwight / Lee) New Business The current year budget was reviewed and after discussion, the suggestion was made to send a letter to all members of the church. The letter would encourage a boost in general fund contributions to meet the ministry needs for the remainder of the year. Kevin will write the letter and send to council members for our review just prior to sending it to the members. The letter will be sent in the very near future. The Stewardship Committee consists of Kevin Carr, Dwight Rumpel, Jeannine Bethke, and Linda Pease. They have a meeting scheduled in the very near future to get organized for the upcoming campaign. The next council meeting will be Monday December 10th, 2007 at 6pm. The meeting was adjourned (Lee / Dwight). |
